Ah, another recent post. Beautiful. haunting. melodious and beautifully played with a new found gravitas in our young performer. Bravo. We had to look up Amy Beach. Wikipedia says she was the first successfull woman composer in America. Nice to be introduced to her lovely music. Thank you so much. God bless, love, Pat and family
Mr. Leander, thank you for playing the works of Amy Beach. She was a very talented yet lesser known, American composer and pianist. I always enjoy her compositions.
Thanks, Leander. That was a great introduction to the music of Amy Beach. Somehow it made me think of a brook of clear water streaming over rocks, and of the wind stirring leaves.
So very nice… I’m glad to see that you soldiered through the videos even though you don’t feel 100%. Your dedication is not lost on your many viewers. Feel better soon, please.
Sometimes melancholic music helps one address the trouble that we face in the world. Many composers have harnessed the sadness and have given voice when words fail. What we feel does not depend on our age or experience, but the depth of our insight. The past month has turned our world upside down. Never fear to feel, Leander. Your talent will transcend anything that stands in your way if you recognize that things all happen in a time and place as they should. It may not be clear yet why Los Angeles suffered, but, life will turn a new page and you will grow. Be Well and Happy despite the circumstances that you see every day. Bless you.
Thank you, Maestro you play with incredible Ability… how on earth you memorize all of this music is beyond me. Hope all is well. Missed you the last few days… smiles, and good wishes.
Hey Leander that seemed like a very difficult piece of music to play... Of course as always you made it look easy and it was beautiful. I was waiting for the big smile at the end. 😊... I pray everything is okay... As always thank you and God bless you
Oh, how beautiful. Another piece sensitively and delicately gently played. Quite a difference from your ragtime music. You are versatile and so talented, Leander. BRAVO! Loved it!!!
Thank you! This is a wonderful interesting piece of music. You play with great clarity and sense of rhythm. Hope you are well. Keep uploading the videos 😊
It's simply amazing what you can do. I'm quite a bit older than you, but I have to say that in many things you're way ahead of me. So, congratulations, little pianist, I think you're going to be great.
Leander, you let us all see young Birch trees swaying in the wind, maybe a strong wind. You seemed a bit more pensive playing this, which fit the musical piece well. Your repertoire is quite varied, but it seems ragtime makes you smile more! 😊 🤗 Jerry
Thank you, dear Leander, in respect of the Holocaust remembrance, your music and your expression are more serious today. But of course still fantastic!
Very evocative, emotional and lovely, Leander. Watching your two hands reminded me of patting my head and rubbing my belly at the same time. You are so adept at keeping the right hand going in perfect time while playing the accompanying bass line. Kudos! Thank you for bringing beauty to my afternoon. Grateful for you. ❤
Claiming to be a piano teacher , you failed to notice hammering rigid right hand far louder than appropriate? It is certainly brilliant for you. Just perfect in comparison.
a breeze through an enchanted forest. good use of the pedal sustain. normally i do not like over use of the pedals. Well done Leander. you have captured a musical moment.
His right hand is simply inappropriately loud, and breaches the composer's instruction of pianissimo. With pianissimo the pedal would have felt better.
@@MishaSkripach well from what i gather he is not site reading from scores and he is pedalling on the fly as he sees fit. this is why i think experience is the best teacher. Leander i think will be at his best with improvisation skills. in fairness to him i think he should at least be exposed to scores and music harmony theory. that would certainly give him greater access to the great masters. however that may not work. many kids are turned off by standard musical notation. its just a sign of the times. i agree sound quality is not at its best over the internet and you could be right about the pedal. he'll probably go through a lot of keyboards before he figures it out. not many kids have access to real pianos nowadays. also playing more instruments could train his ear towards the better sound. when i was a kid his age i was in love with the mandolin but was not allowed to play it because my mother considered it a toy. i am an old man now and torture myself playing Bach and a few others Handel , Scarlatti etc. on classical guitar. kids don't seem to like that stuff any more.
@@danieloreilly881 He does not know how to pedal. Sight reading is a must - playing from memory AFTER it is learnt from a score is also a must. Experience is not the best teacher, otherwise all gifted students would save money on lessons and just practice. But there is not a single self-taught professional pianist. Improvisation is all good, but his hands work not in the right way, for example, he is unable to produce piano at all. Gifted kids are not turned of by notation, and none of the kids who have perfect pitch are turned off, for sure. Reinventing the bicycle takes a lifetime, the lifetime is too short. There is no point wasting time on discovering what Beethoven already discovered. Your mum decided your fate , taking away forever what could have been the love of your life. Well, the same is about to happen to Leander, that's why I am interfering. This kid has a rare talent, which should not be flushed away. Currently many kids love music and are learning with teacher and are very happy about it. To find them, put "Nutcracker competition 2024" or "Grand piano competition" in youtube.
That's another fine job, young man! Your talent is amazing. I am not familiar with that song, but it has a nice tempo. I usually enjoy songs more that are a little farther down on the keyboard, because my hearing and those high notes don't quite go together. I have significant hearing loss with higher frequency tones, so I perceive the mid-range and low-range tones better. The notes on the bass clef sounded very good to me. You did an excellent job of playing the song, and I hope you don't think I am being critical of it. I don't think I could ever be critical of you.
Well now "Piano Man" you never let me down with your interest in diverse music from the least traveled path. Music to my ears and mind. (strong hands) Thank you for posting. I needed a break from politics (Trump)
Another remarkable performance of a lesser-known piece of music. I am constantly amazed at how this young man carries what appears to be an endless amount of music in his head. I hope his teacher is mindful of good arm and wrist positions to absorb the repetitive and percussive movements and avoid strain and injury to young and growing joints and tendons.
no teacher so far, as I understand. A teacher would not have missed hammering crude forte instead of gentle pianissimo in the right hand throughout the piece. The parents rule in every family.
The composer wanted to express the tender trembling of the young birches leaves. When a pianist cannot do piano but bashes and hammers on the keys, the sound reminds of a school playground or church bells constant annoying ringing. When it comes to expressive music, technique matters.
Wow! You're ambitious, Leander! That Ostinato in the treble is a finger workout especially since the dynamic markings are primarily "piano,' 'pianissimo,' and at the last fading away like a shimmering sunbeam sinking below the horizon 'ppp' or the very quietest one can play. It's not until the 8th line of music that there's a one measure crescendo and it's not until the last section that "F," Forte or loud is directed. You can't always rely on the recordings to be performing the dynamics the composer specified. Your ear is gifted to pick out the harmonies in the treble! I hope you work on this one with a highly qualified teacher. Do you think Amy Beach was influenced by Maurice Ravel? If yes, which Ravel works might have influenced Beach? 🕊️
May I suggest you, Leander, watch a Korean video entitled "Keys From The Heart". It is about a young man who becomes a piano prodigy from watching videos.
Nicely played! I DO so wish you would have an opportunity to play pieces like this on a really nice grand piano so that you could find and experience a better range of nuance and expression. I believe that you have it, but it's difficult to bring it out and hear on this piano ...
Piano as opposed to forte can still be played on this upright. A piano professor would mention an impression of birch leaves trembling in the air, not a hammering loud sound..
@@MishaSkripach yes - I agree -- but that is about the extent of it -- one or the other, but not many shades of variation in between. I have played these instruments and really must struggle to adapt to the action -- very short throw. But then I also struggle between Steinways and Yamaha's -- Steinways (and Bechsteins and Faziolis and Blüthner. and Schimmell) typically have a greater range of nuance owing the change in timbre that accompanies changes in volume, whereas Yamaha's get louder or softer in volume - but without any change in timbre -- very noticeable and requires adjustments to accomodate ... What Leander would need to practice is playing with the least possible touch that makes a sound -- that is, press the key so lightly that it does not sound, then press ever so slightly harder until it sounds; then try to play all keys to match .... I would describe it as feathers falling on the keys ...
@Leander-piano I found Old French Song, thank you!!!! Can you try to find Pletnev's Childrens Album and try to get even closer to his exquisite softness, in the right hand especially? The legato flowing phrases.
The little guy never ceases to amaze me. It's an absolute joy to watch, and hear him playing that piano. And the joy he gets out of it, as well.
Missed you the other day. I always look forward to hearing what you've learned next. Very nice!!
Leander each time I see you play you are becoming more and more confident , Thank young sir for what you do.

Thank you so much Leander. Amy Beach’s music is fascinating, and I’m grateful that you chose to play another of her works.
Beautiful, I can see the Birches swaying in the breeze. Peace

He is so talented ,and the piano was almost tuned!
Delightful as ever, Leander. It makes me miss Autumn. 🍁

Beautiful
